Some web pages not displaying fully

Hi there - I wonder if you guys can help me diagnose an issue I'm having witn a particular website. For some reason, whilst I can navigate most of the site, when I try to click on some specific products I only get the banner and not the full page. I have the same issue whether I use IE7 or Firefox so it doesn't appear to be a browser issue. This is making me wonder if NIS2009 could be the culprit. My OS is Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

Could some other NIS2009 users try this link and let me know if they see the full page or just the banner ...

Thanks in advance,

Mercia

I have just got this.  I have about 10 Tabs Open and most of them did not Display or, when they did Display, when I Clicked on a Web Link or tried to Re-fresh the Web Page, it would just go Blank.    When I Re-started, everything was okay.

Hi Mercia,

I was able to navigate the site without any problems.

When I viewed the source code for the site, it seems to rely heavily on javascript.

Any chance you have scripting disabled in your browsers?

Thanks for the prompt responses. I've tried all of the following things but the problem still persists ...

  • F5 to refresh
  • Shift fefresh
  • Restarting IE7
  • Switching IE7 protected mode off
  • Switching off pop-up blocker
  • Accepting all cookies
  • Putting www.game.co.uk into my trusted zone
  • Reducing the Internet Zone security settings from Medium-High to Medium
  • Disabling IE7 Pro plugin
  • Same problem with Firefox

I've checked that javascript is not being blocked and it doesn't appear to be; but I'm not sure which specific settings should be enabled or disabled. I'm pretty much using the default settings for the Internet Zone, i.e. Medium-High security settings with protected mode on.

I've also enabled notify script errors but no erros are being reported.

Firefox relies on Internet Explorer's security Settings. Please enable Javascript.

Disable the Norton IPS and Toolbar Addon in Firefox. See if that helps. Try starting in safe mode w/ Firefox as well. I do not been booting your computer in safe mode; I mean using the safe mode option Firefox provides. That fixed a broken web page layout for me just yesterday...

Mercia,

Can you try the following to see if NIS is indeed the problem here:

1) In the browsers, try disabling the Norton Add-ons (Phishing Protection and Norton IPS). Clear the cache and reload the site.

2) If the problem still occurs, try disabling the Smart Firewall (Open NIS, turn "Smart Firewall" option to OFF). Then reload the site.

Tried everything you both Tech0untsider and OscarL suggested, but still no joy.

In IE7, Tools > Internet Options.> Security tab > Custom Level button > Active Scripting is enabled.

Hi Mercia,

May I ask a few more questions?

1) Do you have any problems with other websites?

2) Do you have any other security software installed?

3) What type of internet connection do you have - dial up, DSL, High Speed Cable?

Thanks.

Are you on a reasonably high speed connection?

How long are you waiting for the page to load?

I ask about that (I'm on XP Pro at the moment but I do have VISTA Ultimate installed on a different partition and would not expect a major difference between the two) because I tried your link and even on my 700Kbps / 6Mbkps connection it took a long time to load -- at least a minute.

If you enable the Status Bar at the bottom of IE screen (RMC on toolbar at top and select Status Bar) it starts saying there are 169 jpg images to download and it takes some time for those to arrive.

I think we're on the same wavelength, huwyngr.

The site is rather image intensive.

Not meant for us mortals …

Hmmm,

I was under the distinct impression you could do that.

No problems with other web sites; other than occasionally - on sites with lots of pictures - one or two images might not always load and I have to right mouse 'show picture' to display them

No other security software installed.

DSL connection - I get around 3808/448 Kbps.

It doesn't matter how long I wait; the page doesn't complete loading.

The green progress bar in the status bar gets to almost 100% but never finishes.

Since the website in question is image intensive, the problem may come down to your connection speed.

How much RAM do you have in your computer and do you have an "onboard video controller" or a "separate video card"?

Thanks - we'll keep trying!

Guys - I really appreciate the ideas and suggestions but please be aware that I'm not a total noob!! My PC spec is more than sufficient to display web sites ...

4GB DDR3 RAM

Mercia,

Yes, your computer specs look great, but since we didn't know, it was a good inquiry to make.

The numbers you quoted for your DSL speed -  are they the published numbers or have you tested your actual connection speed?

Thanks.

Mercia,

Do you have any kind of ad-blocking software on your system?

The DSL numbers I quoted were actual, not published.

I'm using IE7Pro ad-blocker but still have the issue even after disabling the ad-blocker module (and even the whole add-on). I've even added www.game.co.uk to the URL whitelist.

Try disabling unnessacry add-ons and plugins in Firefox.
