About ten minutes after re-boot, Sonar drops out, and Norton 360 cannot be opened. I have done all the suggestions on this forum to no avail - uninstall two different ways, remove specific folders that remain after uninstall, re-install the program, download and run the 20100201-048-V5132.exe, live update until fully up-to-date, run comprehensive scan, etc. I spent three hours on Symantec Chat with a tech that did all the same things that I had done, all to no avail. She said that I had to contact the pay service ($99 minimum) to attempt a fix. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why I should have to pay someone $99 to make their software work. I have Windows XP Pro SP3. All this started when I received one of those UPS trojan e-mails, which Symantec scanned and reported as okay. At that time I was running version 2. I am truly disappointed in the product.
With all that is done, does that include using the Norton Removal Tool?? Quads
Yes - At first I used only the Norton tool, and followed all the instructions on the support site, but later read a post on the forum that said to use the Windows program removal, followed by the Norton one. But no matter what I do, or what order I do it, nothing changes. Also, when I click on SETTINGS, Norton hangs - that's a new symptom. By the way - I see a command in my Registry settings for RUN which is Pjeweviwece, which loads inucekir.dll. Due to the unusual spelling, I was curious. I removed the Pjeweviwece, and it was reset on the next reboot. It probably is unrelated.
Just now - about twenty minutes after selecting SETTINGS, it opened, and in Task Manager, Norton 360 changed from NOT RESPONDING to RUNNING. Go figure. Sonar is still dead.
Our 3-computer office subscription to Norton 360 expires in 45 days. since Norton allowed the infected e-mail, and since Norton cannot fix this serious problem, we will probably go to another security program, such as AVG or McAfee. We're very disappointed in Symantec.
Hello MaryH
Can you please run a full scan with the free version of Malwarebytes to see what that picks up?
. What ports are used for your email according to what is required by your ISP?
Download the free version, install and update then run a FULL scan. After the scan completes you should post the logs back to this thread.
You can find Malwarebytes here
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
It is a safer location to get the program from than malwarebytes themselves because some malware creators have large lists of sites that they block. Please be careful to down load the correct program ----the FREE version of MALWAREBYTES
(Thanks to Delph for providing the alternative site)
