SONAR Protection Not Functioning After Latest Windows Update

After installing a Windows Update last night, Norton Internet Security seems unable to properly engage the “SONAR Protection”. It explains that the program is “unable to connect to part of the Norton/Symantec server”. SONAR Protection is turned off on the menu. I can turn it back on but it says there is still an issue. Attempting the auto-fix does nothing, results in a “Not Fixed” message at the end of the process and I’m stuck staring at that red X of doom even though all other NIS operations seem to be functioning normally. Version number is 7.19.0.12. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, first thing I tried. After the reboot, the error didn’t reappear immediately, but within 10 minutes it was alerting me of the issue once again.

Same thing is happening to me as well. Restarted the computer and SONAR still will not engage. I went to the settings menu, switched SONAR back on and as soon as i left the screen it reverted back to being off. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. Which version of Norton Internet Security are you running? I've also sent you a Private Message (the yellow envelope in the upper right corner of the forum) with some steps to gather and send logs. If you get a chance, we would appreciate the help with this issue. Thanks.

I almost forgot -- if you have screenshots of the error, please post them to the forum. A picture is worth a thousand words :smileywink:

I posted the version number in the original post, but again for reference, it is 17.9.0.12 (ah, I see I mistyped it in the original post; this here is the correct version number)

I will upload images of the errors when I have time later today, and look into sending you data via your instructions.

Hi WolfMarauder,

Thanks for clearing that up. Norton Internet Security 17.x was the 2010 version, and we've had many updates & bug fixes since then. If you have a valid subscription, you can update to the 2013 version (20.2 is the latest as of this post) by visiting the Norton Update Center. I recommend that you update ot the latest version and let me know if this issue still occurs.

Thanks Tony, I will do that. I had no idea you guys updated the software separately from the database updates; I had assumed I was getting version updates right along with it. I'll report back.
