While I've been trying to set up OF for my daughter's new laptop, I am frequently getting "Sorry, An error has occurred on the server" page (the one with the dog holding the red "X" sign) when clicking on various pages in this onerous process. The rest of the page says:
Please, try your request again later.
An error has occurred with our service, your data is safe, but for your protection and to prevent any possible loss of data your request was halted. The error has been logged and reported and we will look into it shortly.
Please return to the home page and log in again. If the problem persists, contact us for assistance.
After clicking on the "home page an log in again" hyperlink, I get the same error page. Any clues as to why and when? I see there were issues a few weeks ago... Thanks!
I'm sorry for not including that before. It is a Toshbia laptop running Windows 8.
I set my daughter up on her new laptop with her gmail account, not a local account last week. Now, after going through the constant "authentication failed" and Norton Online Family still not being able to be installed on her computer, I see at https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?ct=us&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=current&docid=kb20090506102448EN_EndUserProfile_en_us that I should set her up with a "Local account". Is this necessary for online family to work? The "local account" stipulation was not specified in the instructions I downloaded from Norton earlier today.
FYI, when i was trying to set up OF on her computer, I kept getting hung up at the "Parent Sign In" window. I entered my email and password, and her computer name, but it kept tellig me "Authentication failed" and to check my email, password, internet connection, etc. I removed the pre-installed Norton products from her laptop after installing Norton 360 (I know, should have done that in reverse order). Could that be causing my OF issue? Should I totally remove all Norton from her laptop and start again?
