SpeedDisk has detected a System Restore Point

I'm on Windows 7, Lenovo W520 with RAID type 0.

I'm running Norton Utilities 15.

When I try to run SpeedDisk on my C: drive, I get the message:  SpeedDisk has detected a System Restore Point or Backup in progress on this volume.

Do I have to destroy Restore Points to use SpeedDisk (or give up on SpeedDisk, which was my primary motive for buying Utilities)?

Welcome Dean,

Correct me if I'm wrong, it happens a lot, but isn't Raid 0 where you mirror your drive onto a second drive continuously? If that's the case what you're asking SpeedDisk to do is defrag both disks at the same time. I'm not sure that it can do that. I'm not even sure there is any program that will accomplish that sort of a task without a problem.
I am also sorry that I cannot suggest a workaround.

Dick, thanks for the reply.  Raid 0 distributes files onto the two discs to optimize speed.  Microsoft's defrag works.  Was hoping Norton SpeedDisk (which I love) would do a better job.  Not possible?

Hi,

I don't know.

Sorry :smileysad:

Windows uses Shadow Copy to create restore points. Due to changes made by disk optimization and movement of data, Shadow Copy may grow into large size which can result in poor disk optimization. Also, it can cause automatic deletion of restore point data if it reaches maximum size limit. So to optimize a disk with active shadow copy (Restore points enabled), it is recommended to delete restore points before running any Disk Optimizer program not just Norton SpeedDisk.

If you still want to keep the restore points, you can change the settings to do so.

1. Start Norton Utilities.

2. Click Defragment your Disks.

3. In the Norton SpeedDisk window, in the top-right corner, click Settings.

4. Under Select Category, click SpeedDisk.

5. Under Shadow Copy, select Provide optimization regardless of the presence of Shadow Copy.

6. Click Save Settings.

Thank You,:smileyhappy:

I'm still learning and you have provided a valuable lesson.:smileywink:

Stay well and surf safe

Thank You Dean:

Spent the better part of two days trying to resolve this, with very long chat sessions that didn't produce any results. The chat was going in circles with the agent insisting there was a backup or system restore running in background. I have a post that I will update with this find. Looks like the user are writing the user manual.:smileymad:
