My home network consists of a year old Imac with a Bootamp Vista partition, a few months old iMac, plus an older XP laptop, all on an Airport network. The laptop is usually powered off. All software is kept up to date. Today, I decided to do a full system scan in the Mac OS in the year old iMac, which, close to 700,000 out of 900,00+ files, ended in a continuously spinning pinwheel. I was also surfing this community in Safari, so I don't know whether Safari, or Norton IS for Mac, caused the problem. I restarted without a problem and only tested the Mac partition, this time, which has a few over 600,000 files and tested successfully.
2009 and 2010 are the first years I've used Macs. On the other hand, I've used computers since when they filled entire rooms and PCs since the first IBM PC.
Several questions:
1. When Norton says it's scanning three items, does that mean it's scanning the Mac partition, the Windows Vista partition, and a connected USB thumbdrive? Or what?
2. Windows Norton 2009 firewall never asks what to do with an application, but uses an auto response unless specifically changed to use manual responses. Every Mac firewall program I've looked at, including Little Snitch, seems to have a limited knowledge of common applications compared to any modern version of Windows Norton. Anyway, what advantages to you claim for your firewall over Little Snitch, for example?
3. I'm trying to figure out what a cost effective security solution for this system actually is. So, far, Norton doesn't seem to be it compared to Intego, which is willing to protect two Macs and a PC for a cheap price. What are Norton's claimed advantages compared to Intego?
