The spoiler tags no longer works. Quite a while back the concept of spoiler tags was introduced and could be inserted into a post or PM by clicking the button. Then a while later this button was removed from the Post reply editor but remained in the PM editor. However even after this one could manually insert a spoiler tag by enclosing the keyword in brackets within the Rich Text Editor.
(spoiler)
Include your text
(/spoiler)
Of course replace the () with brackets.
This all worked.
However after the last forum software update last weekend spoiler tags NO longer works either in the PM editor nor the Post reply editor. If you include a spoiler tag you get the infamous "Invalid HTML was found...." error and no amount of hitting Post accepts it.
Can this please be fixed?? This is/was a very useful feature!
It should be noted that any spoiler tags already in place continue to work but none can be added to any new posts!
I think I remember some time ago, the spoiler tags were being overused in a couple of posts in this section of the Forum. I think those posts were removed. I'm not 100 % certain of this, but perhaps the change or the elimination of them was done on purpose. I may be wrong about this, so if I am, please let me know. I know my memory isn't the greatest any more, but I think I remember this happening. It is possible that it is one of those things that still needs to be fixed after the updates.
I don't pretend to know why the feature was removed either but I would say that if they were being abused, it should have been dealt with on a case by case basis and not by removing the feature.
This is a really valuable feature. For example, a long post which might have more than one procedure for the OP to follow but would be distracting to have to view on the screen all the time.
I would like Lithium and/or Symantec to respond to explain why this was removed.
Why would you not want the instructions in plain view for all to see all the time? If the post was marked the solution (and others were using it as a template to fix an error) would it not be best to see the whole solution at one time instead of getting half way through it and then realizing that one of the "spoiler" steps makes the whole useless to their problem?

HI Dbrisendine,
I have used the spoiler tags very judiciously in my opinion and typically I do it when I have a pretty long post and feel that having it visible all the time can be distracting to users other than the one with the problem.
It is easy enough to click on the spoiler tag to bring the entire post into view. If we could further label the spoiler tag (as was suggested elsewhere) then it would be even more obvious.
When users search the forums for solutions they would still find posts containing spoiler tags.
Actually, I would love for the option in My Settings to turn the Spoiler ON or OFF. I'd rather read all the instructions at one time. But, that is personal preference ......
