You’ve probably noticed there’s a big, international sports event going on. What is notable about this news event is the pervasive use of social media by the participants and attendees. Never before could a far off event be shared by a global audience and shared immediately. Of course, many of those involved are young people, some of whom are not experienced at preparing and sharing public statements. As a result, we’ve seen a few examples of what can happen when someone posts a comment or a photo without thinking. It can lead to damaged reputations, red faces, cultural misunderstandings and often cause real and lasting harm.
