Spurious Activity

I have noticed a number of web sites visited in my daughters activity log which occured when she was at school and nobody would have access to her PC.  This raises the question of the accuracy of the logging process!  How can this happen?

Many thanks

Hi jrross,

It sounds like you have some software installed on the PC and they keep checking back with their server and Norton Safety Minder records these activities as it should.  Please read the links below for details.

Hi

The link u sent is a link to a conversation that does not seem to answer my question completely !  It does seem to me that there is a lot of spurious activity reported that is not relevant and it is difficult to distinguish real activity and background activity. For example on my other daughters log this mroning there was more than 50 entries of web sites visited when she was not even on her computer !!!  I am beginning to question the benefit of the program as i am unable to see the 'wood for the trees' !

Hi jrross,

Could you send us a screen snap of the activity page where shows the spurious activities.  Please indicate which activities should be in the report and which shouldn't.

You are welcome to send the screen snap to me by email.  You can find my email address at  http://community.norton.com/norton/profile?user.id=15038

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie

I have send you a screen grab as requested.  I did take me a long time to find it as the log is just so full ! There are also thousands of entries for just a couple of hours when she was online ie on average about 10 entries per minute.  It is simply not possible for a ten year old (or anybody) to access this number of pages !!  As I have said before there is just too much spurious activity being logged that it makes it impossible to gain anything sensible from the logs.  Bottom line is it is rather useless sadly ! FYI It does seem to be Facebook that is generating most of the entries.

Hi jrross,

Thanks for sending us a screen snap of the Web Activity report.  I checked the issue with our QA team and we noticed many activities are from the neopets.com website, which are flash games.  What happens is when the browser is open and no one is playing the game on the website, the website pings back to the server and checks with the server. Norton Safety Minder records these activities. That is the reason you see lots of entries from the neopets.com.

Thanks,

Katie
