I have NIS 2009 installed with all the latest updates on my XP SP3 systems (also fully updated). Whenever NIS runs, it reports that it has detected Spyware.CometCursor. I tell it to remove it and reboot, but when I run NIS again, CometCursor is still there. I also tried running NIS in safe-mode and removing it there also does not work.
So I searched this forum and another thread at http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=1022 suggested using Malwarebytes. I downloaded and installed it, ran it and it also detected CometCursor. I told it to remove the spyware, and upon reboot, a run of NIS no longer detects Spyware.CometCursor.
So why doesn't NIS remove spyware as it claims? It is upsetting when a trial version of a competing product works and my paid subscription to NIS does not work?
