I had to uninstall all my Norton products (Ghost v. 10.0 and 360 v. 5) and reinstall. When I got to the activation of Ghost 10.0, it stalled trying to connect to the Symantec server and did nothing for several hours. How can I fix this?
Also, depending on how many times you have activated Ghost, you may have to contact customer service to reset the count. Thank goodness they removed this silly activation from later versions. It just aggravates the legitimate customers! The ones that steal the software still get around this anyway.

Thanks for your quick answer, but I don't think that's the solution.
I began by removing all Norton products using Norton Power Eraser.
I then cleaned up using RegVac registry cleaner and re-booting.
The first thing I tried to install was Ghost - no 360 yet, so its firewall
settings didn't interfere. I am guessing that the WIndows Firewall
was still disabled from the last time I used Norton 360 - does that
sound likely?
Given that any new install may put me right back in the position of
removing everything and starting from scratch, I think I am going to
take the opportunity to switch to Norton Ghost 15. Before I try installing
that, I'll disable all firewalls. WHat do you think?
To reap the benefits of a full VSS backup and the latest technology, that would be a good idea. You can download and test the software before you buy it.
If you are from the US, Frys.com has a Norton bundle containing NIS 2011, Ghost 15 and Norton Utilities 15 on sale about every 4 weeks for either free or $5 after mail in rebates. You could run trial versions until it is available again.
I think they also have Norton 360 on sale quite a bit too.
I see Newegg.com has Ghost 15 free after MIR... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832108456
Free, huh? Izzat the best they can do? Too bad I already paid another vendor actual money for it. At this point, though, the hours of time I wasted are worth more than I paid for the product. Thanks for the tip.
