GENERAL INFORMATION …….
I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 using my existing motherboard.
This older board has limited resources but the fact that Windows 7 now isolates Windows Update from Internet Explorer has allowed me to uninstall Internet Explorer and also Windows Media Player so that I can choose alternative less cpu / memory intensive programs.
I had always thought that nothing would be as good as Windows XP but that opnion has changed now that I have Windows 7 up and running. I can honestly say that this is the best operating system that Microsoft has turned out to date!
Norton has always been an issue for me with regard to memory and cpu and freezing* but my method of running Quick Scans at every startup and placing Norton into Quiet Mode now keeps everything running smoothly again.
* NOTE: Idle time scans do not work for me as they freeze Windows 7.
ISSUES …….
QUICK SCAN WAS NOT RUN IN BACKGROUND
Quick Scan was scheduled in Windows Task Scheduler with parameter /SESCAN.
The scan should have run in the background but it still displayed the scan window.
It doesn’t seem to make any difference if the scan is run with parameter /quick.
SCAN NOW NOT UPDATED
Recent History shows the scheduled startup Quick Scan result for today.
However Scan Now / Custom Scan does not show the startup Quick Scan result (still shows the previous day).
Scan Now is probably meant to be a record of customer activated manual scans but nevertheless the scheduled automatic scan result should still show in Scan Now when the last Quick Scan was run (for record purposes).
What is the point of Custom Scan showing that the last time a manual Quick Scan was run say a week ago when it actually ran automatically a few minutes ago?
SCHEDULED SCANS NOT RUN AT EVERY STARTUP
When I was testing out Windows Scheduled Quick Scans I noticed that a Quick Scan was not run at every Windows startup. Whilst I can understand that a Quick Scan may well have been run a few minutes ago surely if I have scheduled it to run it should run and I be given the option to stop it if I wish?
