Startup scan

Norton startup scan has been running for over 24 hours. I’m afraid to stop it in mid stream but I really think something is wrong here. Any ideas why this might happen and/or what I can do to identify the issue? Thank you.

What Norton product do you have installed and what is the version? Are you running a recovery disk created with Norton? Correct me if I am wrong but your screenshot suggests you are running startup scan from a command prompt.

If you go into Security - Scans - Preset Scans. Hover over that & you will see a settings gear wheel - go into there & turn it OFF. There is also a ‘Set-Up’; button - do not click on that as it will turn it ON & run without going to Settings first. Have not been into the setings for a while, be careful if you do subsequently go into settings - it is too easy to turn on again. You say it has been running for hours - have you pressed ‘escape’ which should then abort the scan & allow your to log-in to computer.
