The invalid HTML while posting message could be for one or two reasons. Usually it occurs when pasting content from another source and either HTML thats not allowed in a post has been used, or the HTML has been broken up so that its not all there.
The editor could just scrub the offending HTML tags out and go on and post the message, but it might not be formated the way the poster expects at that point. So after the 'scrub' operation you are given another chance to check the formatting before reposting.
