Today out of boredom, I looked through the Intrusion Prevention history and discovered that NIS has logged 300+ intrusion attempt entries on one day, with each of them about 10-15 seconds apart.
The time logged by NIS 2009 coincides exactly with the time I spent playing Left 4 Dead (a multiplayer online FPS game made by Valve). In game, I noticed nothing out of the ordinary. I could connect to servers with no problems. No gameplay lag, no network issues, and I could play with friends without a hiccup. The point of interest about all this is the fact that, according to the logged entries, NIS 2009 has blocked Portscan attempts from my computer (my machine's IP address) to 255.255.255.255.
Is this a cause for concern in terms of security? For those who uses Steam also, are you seeing the same log entries too on your NIS 2009 install?
