The last time I looked into Norton Family, the child's account was shown a pop-up every time the child logged in to their account, and a dog icon was placed in the system notification area.
Are these two features still part of Norton Family and, if so, is there a way to turn them both off?
Nothing wrong with promoting healthy family discussion. All for it. But shouldn't Symantec let families decide how to do that?
Displaying a pop-up every time a child logs on is excessive and says to the child we don't trust you. That's not healthy family discussion. Same thing for the doggie in the tray. A child doesn't need a dog to remind them of their limits...that's where the healthy family discussion comes in. If a child needs further reminding, they'll get it when they (accidentally) access a forbidden web site or try to stay on for longer than they are allowed.
I'm sorry, but as long as the pop-up and the pooch are there, I'm not a customer.
Colour me old-fashioned, however, I appreciate the Norton pooch insofar as:
1.) The poor creature was sick - - just barely hanging on (so to speak) when it appeared in my archway. It looked as though it hadn’t consumed any food in three [3] days! I nursed it back to good health. Yes, you could say that me and that mutt have a bit of history. (clears throat)
2.) Sentimentalism aside, it conveys a strong message that whomever sits down at that computer had better mind what they intend to watch - - as Norton is watching them.
3.) There is something to be said for assurance. When I see that message, it re-affirms (in my mind) that the programme is working and accomplishing that which it is employed to do.
