Unfortunately the automated Norton Full System scan does not pause when the computer is being used. It continues to run and slows down the machine even though the user is not idle and is trying to get real work done.
The responses from Norton have been to simply re-iterate the wording in the manual - the user can't stop the scan, but it should pause on its own when the user is active, then will restart when the machine is idle.
This does not happen. The scan goes on, even as I type this.
I have used Norton for many years and have always found the product highly intrusive and insensitive to user needs. In the old days of limited CPU power and slow drives, it was often a toss-up whether it was worse to have Norton or an actual virus on one's system... With today's multiple-CPU machines I can tolerate Norton, but just barely.
Not having a "Pause Scan Now" button (that actually works) is yet another example of this product's user-unfriendly legacy. Such a button should be added right away.
