I saw another thread hear regarding this issue and it was marked "solved" although it is not. The thread is here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Disabling-Popup-Notification-for-background-scan-without/m-p/167664
I have set my idle time to 30 minutes and that is fine when I pause but the issue I have is when I walk away from the computer to run to the store, eat or whatever, I leave the computer on so it can run idle tasks. I have my screen saver set for 5 minutes and the monitor to sleep after 30 minutes.
Here is where the issue begins...
When Norton starts it's idle time tasks it puts up that annoying notification that background tasks are being performed. When this happens, the screen wakes up/ends screen saver. The screen stays in the full on position until I click that annoying little pop up. So, I return from being away for a hour or three and see my screen in the full on setting. Not good at all.
I have fiddled with everything to stop this. Silent mode is not the answer as it kills the idle scans, and running them on idle helps out a ton as I generally have a double row of task bar items running during my workday.
Here is my suggestions:
- The notification has a disable setting. Either "notfy when background task are running or not.
- Let the pestering lil pop up appear but go away after 10 seconds without user interaction
I switched to Norton a few months ago, the original version I had did not do this. I recently did a re-install to version 4.1.0.32 and now I am stuck with the issue.
I even went to live support and had them come in and fiddle with the settings. All she did was change the idle time to 30 minutes. Tonight as I took a break for an hour I returned to see the dang thing sitting there waiting for my happy click and my screen was in full operation. Yep, off the sleep, screen saver off too. Not happy with this part of the software, I had McAfee before and really liked the improvement that Norton brought to my security but you all need to fix this bug. It is like a gnat flying around your eyes all the time.
Thank you for your time.
