Strange Problems with Security Occuring

After my norton restarted by itself without my computer shutting down yesterday. I restarted my computer today and tried a full scan which would stop every time Norton did maintaince tasks. I changed the scheduling so that it would do them on monday (my computer knows today is saturday as does norton as far as I know). I resumed the scans only for it stop again when the tasks started again after it was idle for 10 minutes or so. I checked the settings they were the same as i had left them. I did a live update and norton diagnostic which said there no new updates and norton was fine. I restarted norton and resumed the full scan which stopped again due to a maintaince tasks by the time I stopped the scan it had reached a million items when it usually finishes properly at around 500k. Even after I restarted my computer it continued to do maintaince after being idle for a few minutes. I did a few power eraser scans which said everything was fine. Later I checked the security logs which seem to be missing entries that should be there such as some of the “entering and exiting of full screen” logs that are usually there before and after login. As well as not saying that “No user logged in” before I logged in the timeline though the ones saying “User logged in” was there. Some of the no user logs that were there said that it took me up to 50 minutes to login when I know its never taken me longer than 10 minutes login. One example being today when I logged in and checked the logs and it said there was a 40 minute gap between turning my computer on and logging when it definitely took no longer than 5 minutes. While after I restarted my computer 8 or so times while trying sort out problems with the screen going black for a second after log in. The log for the scan I had cancelled a few hours earlier appeared at the top of the time thoughi hadn’t done a scan for at least 2 hours at that point. I also have windows defender protection active, though when i did the restart offline scan it wouldn’t go past 90% and simply restarts plus it wouldn’t show any results after it restarts and I log in. Either in the windows defender security log or event log. I’m sorry for the wall of text but can anyone explain whats happening and do you have any solutions?

Sounds like you may have had some corruption in your Norton product. A clean install might straighten things out.

While logged into a Windows admin user account, download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool. Be sure that after the reinstall that you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.
