Hi, I just got the notice that my norton 360 had done a file cleanup. This is a routine thing, but I was confused because the summary mentioned that it had removed some internet explorer files. That’s a defunct program that was replaced by edge years ago, isn’t it? Anyway, this computer is less than a year old, and I’ve never had internet explorer on it (nor on my previous computer, actually). So I’m a bit confused.
Also, on an unrelated note, the most recent scan indicate that my adobe acrobat DC continuous prpgram needs updating. I closed it from the task manager, and tried to update, but I got a message from norton saying that the program needs to be closed before it can update. According to my task manager adobe acrobat is not running.
Trust mee it can be running more then one place
I has tryet to uninstall avg breachguard it is running manny places before i can uninstall it ore reparere it the internet Explorer files can be that you is running internet Explorer mode in you browser
Internet Explorer was integrated into Windows 10. Just because you never used it, does not mean it did not get updated regularly over time which would leave temp files that need to be removed.
Roxxsmom. Although an earlier update in 2023 to Edge disabled IE. The Edge browser still has a setting which allows some websites that were built for Internet Explorer to use IE mode in its settings. If Edge is your default browser Norton will clean the files it needs to clean in that browser regardless. The link below shows how that mode can be disabled in Edge if its already enabled.
Regarding Adobe DC, it also has settings that allow it to automatically update. If you are running Norton Software Updater, my advice is don’t. Most programs will automatically update as they are made to do so. Hope that clears some of the confusion for you.
I don’t use edge at all because I can’t stand all the Bing stuff. I actually deleted it from my computer, though it keeps reappearing when Windows updates. That probably explains the mysterious IE stuff.
As for the Adobe thing, I was surprised it wasn’t updating on its own, so Norton “thought” it had to. Not sure what’s going on there.
