From your several posts on similar subjects in the forum, it sounds like you want to go “hunting” for malware. Like with anything, the best safety lies in being protected, and being cautious. It’s difficult to know what malware will be disseminated on a specific site, and what new versions are available. My advice is to avoid sites that are known to have malware, and keep your definitions up-to-date.

No actually it is the opposite. I'm so paranoid about Virus, maleware, spyware,e tc.. that I don't really even want to surf the net. I was hoping that if it is correc that NAV2008 stops known virus, maleware, spyware, etc, that I can surf with some ease of mind. I just used that extreme example to help me understand, thaink that if you went to a known maleware site and NAV2008 would stop infection, then the more "normal" sites would be even safer.

So am I correct that NAV2008 stops infections at point of contact (within reason and def updates)?

While you are correct that Norton AntiVirus will detect and clean infections, I would also think that someone who is paranoid about system security would also employ Norton Internet Security as well, which has a full firewall. It is important to not only have protection, but multiple layers of protection, for the many different ways that malware can get on your system, including user error. I realize that Norton Internet Security is a few dollars more expensive than Norton AntiVirus, which might be a big factor for you. However, if peace of mind is your ultimate determining factor, I would recommend that you try Norton Internet Security 2008.

Thanks Tony,

Just so I'm clear NAV 2008 stops at point of contact (provided defs are up to date), correct? And if something was not in the defs today, and got on my comp, then tomoorws updates included that def, it would detect and remove?

So its a 2 point process block and then if something slips past, find and remove. Simple explainaition but true, right?

My NAV subscription is coming up soon and I think I will try NIS
