<< I supplied the tracking numbers in a reply. Still no response. >>
Can you give the link to that thread/message please. I remember it but it would help to have the link.
Have you checked for a private message reply -- up to right where the envelope is -- it will say how many and how many unread if you have any.
Hi John,
Just to be clear, are these the tracking numbers?
9699918
9700588
9700618
9702117
I want to be sure I have the accurate information. Thanks!
I recently had a post on here where I described having submitted several files to Symantec for analysis, and that Symantec seemed to have released definitions for a couple of them very soon after, however I still have no reply from Symantec whatsoever, barring the auto generated replies with tracking numbers.
I contacted a few of the techs at Symantec, a couple said they didn't even recognize the tracking numbers, and a third who assured me he would forward the tracking numbers to the Security Centre and they would get back to me. Not a word since.
A Symantec employee on this forum asked for the tracking numbers as a reply on the post..
"When you submit a sample for analysis you should receive an email with a tracking number for the submission. Could you please provide that tracking number so that we can determine the status of your submission?
Thanks
Orla
Symantec Security Response"..
I supplied the tracking numbers in a reply. Still no response.
The reason I would like to know the results is that I still have the files in Quarantine on my HD, and some of the files are recognized by other Security Suites (eg Kaspersky, Trend Micro etc) as viruses but Norton has not released definitions.
Im about to give up on this one, can anyone else offer a suggestion on how I may get a reply from the Security Centre? I can put the tracking numbers up on here again if necessary.
Thanks
John A.
Thanks Tony Weiss
I only just received a response to all of those ticket numbers one hour ago, so seems like you got through to the right people.
I was concerned because it was back on June 10 that I originally submitted these files, which I knew were malicious, but has taken until today for definitions to be released. (I updated definitions and scanned the files yesterday and some were not being picked up by Norton, but I just scanned the files now and they are all being picked up as worms/trojans).
Here is part of the reply I just received from the Symantec Security Response:
filename: New Compressed (zipped) Folder.zip
machine: Machine
result: See the developer notes
filename: Retrospect_Backup_v6.0.209.zip.exe
machine: Machine
result: This file is detected as Trojan.Dropper. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.dropper.html
filename: axer.exe
machine: Machine
result: This file is detected as Virus.
filename: install.exe
machine: Machine
result: This file is detected as Virus.
Symantec Security Response has determined that the sample(s) that you provided are infected with a virus, worm, or Trojan. We have created RapidRelease definitions that will detect this threat. Please follow the instruction at the end of this email message to download and install the latest RapidRelease definitions
Thanks for the help in contacting the Security Team on my behalf, I'm pleased the definitions have finally been released.
John
Hi Tony Weiss
I was curious, did you contact the Security Team with those ticket numbers, or was it just a coincidence that the replies came through on the same day a month late..just wondering?
Thanks
Hi johna,
Both happened; I contacted the team, and they told me they were just about to process those reference numbers. I figured I would let them tell you the status since they do that automatically. I'm glad it worked out. Thanks!
Maybe you could try and send them again?
