Subscription Expiration Breaks product?

after my subscription expires, why does the product stop working

Hi,

Norton Product enters Expiration state when subscription days you paid for is over. In expiration state you will asked to renew the product so that all the features will be avilable back to you.

So please renew the Norton product and stay protected.

So the product will not continue to work utilizing old definitions, etc?

Because malware is changing so rapidly now, compared to a few years ago, products without regular definitions are worse than useless because people think that it is better than nothing.  It actually isn't.  For that reason, the software is licenced for a specific period of time, and at the end of it, it ceases to work.  We just pay for the use of the software for a year or specified period of time.

Understood.  thanks for the assistance and goodbye Symantec.

Hi chrodd,

That is correct - the subscription does not simply entitle you to virus definition updates.  It extends to all features of the product, most of which - in addition to virus definitions, IPS attack definitions, heuristics definitions, antiphishing blacklists, application trust lists, etc.  - now also depend on program updates, rules and policy updates, and connectivity to back end servers for reputation and other data that is stored in the cloud.  Without these things the various Norton components cannot work properly anyway, so the days when you could have some measure of protection despite out of date virus definitions are long past.
