On February 19th I received an e-mail from Symantec Store that as a NIS2008 user with a valid subscription I was entitled to a free update to NIS2009. When this update was finished it stopped functioning stating that my subscription had run out (it actually runs to July 2009).
Using help I found a page describing this situation (meaning: Symantec is aware that this happens), but the offered solution was totally useless. It suggested that I should select an option stating that I had a valid subscription and that the message was an error. Needless to say, this option was nowhere to be found, leaving me with no option but to de-install NIS2009 and reinstall NIS2008 again, then updating for all the virus definition updates since.
This whole issue has taken up to two hours of my life, and after I finished I realised that I had a similar incident with NIS2007 upgrading to 2008.
Is this a one-off incident that just happened or is this normal when being offered to update. If so, what is the purpose of offering a free upgrade if it is faulty, and then offering help that is even more flawed than the software itself?
Is there anyone who has had the same experience, if so could you actually get both NIS2009 and your subscription working again?
