Subscrption renewal key not being accepted

I've just renewed my subscription to NIS (not upgraded, just renewal) online.  I got the confirmation email with the renewal key but when I go to NIS to enter the new renewal key into the Subscription page, it gives me an error.  I'm absolutely sure that I'm typing it correctly.  I've been searching around for a while and been waiting in the Symantec support chat room for about an hour now.  Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Does it give you an error or an error message?  It it’s an error message what does it say?  It it’s just an error, then something else is happening here.

Do not type it in. Copy and paste it. or use Ctrl+C then use Ctrl+V. Which version of NIS did you renew? If your using an older version then your best to upgrade to NIS 2009. You might have just upgraded your older version.

Error message says:  Invalid Renewal Code.  The renewal code you have entered is invalid.  Please re-enter your renewal code.

I'm typing exactly what was in the email I got from my confirmation order but still getting the error.

Did copy/paste directly as well.  Same error!

Did you use Ctrl+C then use Ctrl+V?

What version of NIS are you using?

Hi KS001,

Try this link which will show you how to synchronize with the Symantec Subscription Server.

Generally it is used for correcting the subscription date, but as long as you're waiting in the chat queue, it couldn't hurt.

Yes, copied and pasted exactly as you stated (ctrl-c; ctrl-v).

When I check my version description in the "about" window, I don't see NIS2007 or NIS2008 ... I only see a version and rev number: 15.5.0.23.

Is there somewhere else I should be looking to see if it's the 07 or 08 version?

Call up or chat with customer service using the installation options.  They will make sure your are entering the correct code or that there wasn't a slip up in what you were sent.

Before you do that, keep in mind that there is a product code and a registration code and an activation key.  It is this last thing that they are asking for.  It should consist of 25 characters (ignore dashes and/or spaces) but no letter O's.  Their q's can look like o's, so be careful.  It doesn't matter if you enter them upper of lower case.

Also, did you only order the one product?  Otherwise is it possible you are looking at the wrong email?  (Hey, we think of anything!)

I'm down to #8 in the queue on the Chat line now ... maybe another 30 minutes or so!

I did order System Works Basic on this same order, but it is clearly distinguished on the order summary with a different product key (and it's 25 characters long).  The subscription renewal key that it shows for my NIS renewal is only 19 characters long.

Thanks again,

The key for NIS should be 25 characters in length.

Maybe we're talking about two different things.  When I go to the "subscription" button and tell it that I have purchased a subscription and will enter my renewal code, I have 5 boxes (A-E) to enter the code into.  The boxes only accept 4 characters each in A-D and 3 characters in E.  This is 19 characters.  But when I enter my 19 characters, I get the error above.

Thanks,

PS - #4 in queue ... getting close!

Problem solved.  Had to go in and re-activate the product on all machines running it.  When I did, it automatically picked up the new subscription renewal.  No idea what the deal is with the 19 character code I got in the email...

Thanks for all of your replies earlier.

Hi KS001,

Glad you got it fixed and thanks for the tip about re-activating on all machines. I'll have to remember that.

Best Wishes.

Yes I will have to remember about re-activating on all machines as well.

Thanks for that
