2. The Phishing protection pass word vault should have a back up or export facility so that the passwords can be easily backed up to an external HD or an off premise server.

What’s the use of that? "

All HD drives fail.

The passwords should be recoverable from back up.

Stu also wrote, "5 All of the settings for the program should be exportable to an encrypted volume for easy back up. All hard drives die eventually and there is no reason to loose all the settings just because the hard drive failed.

This way you are working more with encryption. Don’t know if Symantec will ever go there "

The competition is there. Google RoboForm™

Stu wrote in referance to removal of the Norton Phising Protection Tool bar removal, “You can set it on and off in your webbrowse”

I am using Firefox/2.0.0.14 and I right clicked the tool bar and there was no response.

I could not find a tool bar reval tool for this tool bar.

I upgraded from NIS2007 to NIS2008 today and make the following suggestins based on my first impression:

1. The Phishing protection pass word vault should have a random character generator for use in creating random character pass words because nK8mtw9e6bMZ is a stronger pass word than MyDogSpot.

2. The Phishing protection pass word vault should have a back up or export facility so that the passwords can be easily backed up to an external HD or an off premise server.

3. The Phishing protection tool bar should be easily removable for those who decide not to use it. I activated it and decided that I prefer to keep my RoboForm™ because I am used to it and I already have a significant number of passwords in it. Also, the passwords are kept in an encrypted folder under my files so it is easy to back up when I back up MyFiles.

4. An additional item that could be a nice option is a change password reminder for those of us who believe that security is enhanced when the pass words are changed on a regular basis. The reminder could be set to any interval with the suggested intervals at 30, 60, and 90 days.

5 All of the settings for the program should be exportable to an encrypted volume for easy back up. All hard drives die eventually and there is no reason to loose all the settings just because the hard drive failed.

The requirement for encrypted backup also applies to the Crimeware and identity safe data.

I realize that the data can be easily backed up if the user sets his backup to MyComputer.

However, many users just back up MyFiles.

Doesn't sound sound that safe to me

I don't see this as competition. Still not sure why Symantec would do that

You should be able to do that.

It’s safe when encrypted with strong encryption. I use AES 256 which is authorized for encryption of all documents up through and including top Secret by the US.

You may be right. I don’t asset to know their corporate thinking.

I did find the tool bar turn off under views and turned it off.

You are entitled to your opinions. I will not arugue with you and will not respond fruther.

BTW: Norton does use encryption of some stored information

From their documentation:

" Personal Data Protection

Ensure that your personal information is locked down on your PC
Ensure that your personal information is locked down on your PC. Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 encrypts confidential information such as your address and even credit card information and stores it in a secure vault. Norton allows you to conveniently fill this information in an online form when needed."
