In the Norton Tablet Security (NTS) forum smithy has requested, quite reasonably, that the software should be amended to show a scan notification in the same way the Norton Mobile Security (NMS) currently does. This is, that there is no Norton Icon on display until an app is installed at which point an icon appears in the notification bar advising that it is being checked and then (hopefully) that it is safe. Originally NMS had a permanent Norton icon which many did not like, then it had the ability to turn that off and now it has the active icon. I would like to suggest that it be made possible for the user to choose not to see the active icon (unless it wishes to warn the user of a suspicious app). I know that Norton scans apps that I install and don't need to be reminded of it. Many users were concerned that if their phone was stolen then the presence of the Norton icon might alert the thief to its presence before they were able to active a remote lock. I think this remains a potentially valid concern and until it become impossible to remove NMS without a password then I think hiding even the current notification might be a good idea.
