Thanks AlenM

confused about certain things that Norton offers as protection.

Still trying to decide wether to switch to Norton even though it was a gift.

The one using now offers

AntiPhishing proactive protection against phishing

AntiVirProActiv detects unknown viruses by their behavior patterns

WebGuard protection against malicious websites

AntiDrive-by prevents against downloading viruses when surfing

MailGuard enhanced email protection

this works in all browsers

Could you please clarify tthins for me.

Hi north450,

I did not mean to imply that your level of protection is as good on non-supported browsers because it is not. Auto-protect will still kick in and protect you when something is saved to or accessed from your hard drive.

Some of the other things like IPS (Intrustion Prevention Service), safe web and other things are only integrated with supported browsers like Firefox and IE. These other technologies can many times block things before they get onto your hard drive.

In my opinion you should use one of the directly supported browsers for the best all-around protection.

thanks

ips will stop it before it hits the hard drive in ff and ie.

the others only when it hits the hard drive.

Here is some clarification on the IPS browser plug-in from Reese Anschultz, a Symantec employee:
