Suspicious activity monitoring cpqset and qttask

Hi Mo

See the screenshot below. Notice where the Mouse cursor (pointer) is??  When you place the mouse cursor at the end of the column it will change to a black spread icon, right click and keep the button pressed down. While pressed down drag to the right to reveal the rest of the entry.

"carpserv.exe" is OK it is used in laptop / notebooks to configure the internal modems.

Cheers

Hi Quads

the ctfmon checks out OK,GREAT screenshot!! Took me a while to put the pointer on the right spot but just like magic:smileyvery-happy:Now when I was back there Lo and behold there was another msmsgs full description msmsgs"C:\program files\messenger\msmsgs.exe"/background so I unchecked that as well.Is it normal to have 2 exactly the same?both msmgs and both with background?as I speak the little icon is back in my tray, persistent little ICON (LOL)to clarify its a little man figure with an red circle and white crossX thru it.thanks again for your help.

Cheers Mo

Hi Mo

LOL, Yes it can be common to have 2 entries of "msmsgs" in the startup.  One probably belongs to XP's built in Messenger (the one you will find in the XP CD. one should actually be "msmsgs.exe" and the other "msmsgr.exe" is the newer "Windows live".

And yes I have seen where the tray icon keeps coming back . Yes the little man figure, the red circle and white cross means you are not connected to your messenger account.

1. Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.
2. In the left pane, click General.
3. Under Sign In, clear the Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows check box.
4. Click OK

Try that

Quads

Hi again

will try that !

Cheers Mo

To get rid of messenger first kill the process. Then go to C:\Program Files\Messenger and right click on it and select rename. Hit end on your keyboard so your at the end of messenger and add "off: to the end. Reboot.

Here is how to remove "ctfmon".

I notice the qttask thing too everytime I re-start my computer.
