I'm not sure if I'm really in the right place here, but I'm at my wits end and I'm hoping for some help.
On Tuesday night my computer was infected with Suspicious Mystic and some other back door. Norton immediately fired and quarantined them, however they keep attacking my computer anyway. I get a pop up from Norton literally every 10 seconds saying that it's blocked the virus and that it it secured, and then it comes up again a few seconds later.
The problem is that this stupid virus has disabled my Task bar and my desktop icons. Everything I do has to be done through Task Manager. I managed to get into system restore (after 2 days of researching online), but for some reason there are no restore points from before the infection (which is weird, I could have sworn that I had some).
I have looked at fixes online, but they require explorer.exe, which I do not have for some reason. I assume that it has been deleted from the registry/disabled/renamed/hidden by the virus.
At this point my only option short of removing the virus and correcting its damage, is to somehow reinstall windows, except that I have a netbook, i was never given a CD or a password for XP and I have no CD drive.
Has anyone come up with a solution to correcting this problem manually? I have already backed up my important files (there weren't many) through Task Manager.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help!!!
