A few days ago I was installing Ubuntu as a side OS, so I could keep my Windows(which I love dearly) and try this new OS.
Mid install, a bunch of error codes came up, and it stopped doing anything, si I took the CD out, and held the button till it went off. I booted it back up, it wouldn't boot up, re started right before the user accounts page.. I tried again.. it just restarted right at the user account page again. So I booted in safemode. Once on, I look around, every thing seemed ok. I restarted it, it came on fine, no need for safemode, and I logged on. There was no taskbar / icons. It was like I closed Explorer.exe in the Task Manager. I went to start it up, and it wasn't in the C>Windows folder. I posted this problem on both the Microsoft and Ubuntu websites, and no one on the Ubuntu could figure out why it removed my explorer.exe. Now I had my friend, whose also running Windows XP SP3, to send me a copy of his Explorer.exe. Totally clean. Second I put it in my C>Windows, NAV popped up saying it block 'Suspicious.Mystic Now its not removing it, but blocking it. I looked in my Windows folder, and its there, but the icon is like one of those pictures where the file type isn't supported. I only have NAV for 74 more days, and I'm planing on switching, so if I have to remove NAV to fix this, I don't mind much. My only questiona are: Why does it keep reading it and blocking/removing it - Would uninstalling NAV fix this, OR would telling NAV to leave the file alone, where it is, would that also fix it, and not make me remove NAV??
Any ideas would be great.
P.S. I'm currently using a Windows Shell replacement to run on my pc to fix it(GeoShell [ I have it set to the XP theme so I can know my way around a bit better] - www.Geoshell.org ) I'd really, really like to fix this without wiping my pc, as I will loose some data that can't be retrieved.
