Symantec AntiVirus constantly detects Trojan.Gen.2 and quarantines

Starting 3-4 weeks ago from today, my Symantec AntiVirus started to detect Trojan.Gen.2's on my system. The suspicious files are always *.tmp's in my C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\ folder. The AntiVirus quarantines, but never deletes, and more *.tmp's are detected and quarantined several hours later, the next day, or 2-3 days later. The detection and quarantine process is slowing my computer by flooding my Windows harddisk with read/write operations. I fear that my computer might have been infected with something nasty...

I am willing to work patiently and methodically with a knowledgeable forum member to correctly diagnose the infection and treat it. I am monitoring this thread for offers of assistance.

Thank you in advace.

Thank you, Quads. This article is exactly what I need!

I am using Symantec Endpoint Protection Client  version 11.0.6000.550. I got this legitimately from my university's IT department. The IT department is still using v11.0.6000.550, and I have no idea how to update to the newer SEP Client.  I want to disable rescanning for the quanrantine folder after virus definitions are updated. The instructions in the article that you referenced point to "Antivirus and Antispyware policy > Windows Settings > Quarantine > General", but I see no such option in my SEP Client.

Is it possible to disable rescanning from the SEP Client?

Symantec Corp products have their own Forum,  This is not the Forum.

You may have to ask your Uni for a SEP admin password.

I'm satisfied with the solution, and I considered my problem solved. Thank you once again, Quads.
