Symantec Error Reporting entry

If you ran the tool, expecting it to do something, why would you remove what it did??? Also you should have your own thread on this if you want to pursue it.  This is Calls interminable thread.

If you ran the tool back in June AND you are still getting the error, then what does that say to do in the KB article?  (Repair install of Vista OS)  An improper OS running will affect many things BUT you will still get your updates to both NIS and Windows.

The error you reported may keep both from running properly but that may be alright; NIS2010 is pretty robust about its own functions and processes, so you should be fine unless an OS exploit for that error comes around.

Dbrisendine-

Just thought I'd give a little update. Looks like  I ran the tool 6/23/10 . And according to my update history the status shows succesful.

I do notice a log in    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\ CheckSUR

Here is what it shows

Summary:
Seconds executed: 2804
 Found 4 errors
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 4

So it looks like the 4 missing items,  1 involves bluetooth, and 3 involve Windows Portable Device Media

So I'm not sure what that would have to do with NIS 2010, except I went on  Microsoft Answers and posted there, one of thier "Gurus" indicated these things:

Error 0x80070490 has a possible meaning of........

Permission denied / [Problem initializing or using session variables] or Element not found

Error 0x80070490 might mean that some part of the program, not all of it, is trying to access, or do something, that your user is not allowed to access?  It doesn't mean the whole program is having problems and is not working.

When is this error appearing, is it at Shutdown?  If it is see if Norton is checking for non existent floppies. See if your settings for Norton are correct.

Some antivirus have options to scan hardware such as floppy drives at Startup, or Shutdown, some have options to scan removable drives.

So I don't know if that makes any sense, or not

I ran the tool and it applied a hotfix.  Should I remove the hotfix?

There is a fix posted for these identical errors on the Vista forum, which, according to that user was completely successful, if for some reason you don't care to undertake the repair advised in the link that dbrisendine provided.

Thanks Del- but these errors should not interfere with NIS functioning and protection, eh?

Hi Calls,

No, no, no, no. This has been stated multiple times, try to relax.

Best wishes.
