Symantec Error Reporting How To Question

Hello Forum

How do I or How should I interpret the Symantec Error Reporting events.

Process Name:  ccSvcHst  ~  Module Name: ccEraser, NUMEng, FWSetup, ISDATAPR

Process Name:  firefox       ~  Module Name: coFFPlgn

Process Name:  iexplore    ~  Module Name: coIEPlg

Are these normal events or indicative of some unknown I need to be aware of..... the term Error infers something is wrong... the Severity is Low ~ but, the event is still worthy of being reported.  Since, the event is being reported....who / what is the event being reported to and how should I understand the event.

Thanks

Plgn = looks like it stands for “plugin”; may be related to the fact that the checkmarks were not showing up during your Google searches (also because of the browser indications “firefox” and “iexplore”)

HI Yasso_Kuuhl

Yes, the error events must have been related to the checkmarks...as always,  in hindsight the picture is so much clearer.  I suspected something was amiss because for over a year with NIS09 ~ not one error event.  I was temporarily dissuaded from my perceptions by the fine folks at Live Chat.

All's Well That Ends Well

Thanks again :smileyhappy:

Hi Forum

I marked up this thread as solved and now remember we only answered half my issue...I still have daily Error Reporting Submissions for ~ Process Name:  ccSvcHst  ~  Module Name: ccEraser, NUMEng, FWSetup, ISDATAPR, AVAPP32

How do I or How should I interpret the Symantec Error Reporting events.

Process Name:  ccSvcHst  ~  Module Name: ccEraser, NUMEng, FWSetup, ISDATAPR, AVAPP32

Help info states ~ Error Reporting Submissions are software failures that are related to the product submitted to Symantec for analysis.

Software failures and Error sounds bad....all error reporting events are time stamped same as  NIS\Engine\17.1.0.19\SymErr.exe is preparing to access the Internet

Comments Help Info Suggestions ?

My Chat session produced the same scripted answer...not to worry...all users have the same or similiar Error Reporting Submissions daily from the ccSvcHst to Symantec server....Symantec uses info to improve product.

So, my question to the Community is ~~~ do all users find "Error Reporting Submissions" in their Security History > Show > Symantec Error Reporting

Hi bjm,

There is no need to worry about the above; it is normal - I have several of the same error reporting events like you (e.g. ccEraser). As long as the Norton icon remains green/Norton reports that it is "Secure", you are fine; also, as long as there is nothing reported under "Errors" in "Security History", everything is okay :-)

For further reassurance, you can read PieterV's post over here:

Hi Yaso_Kuuhl

Once again you have expeditiously addressed my issue...and via some instant magical index ~ you have offered me extra additional reassurance.  Yes, I am happy to confirm that the Error event reported under Errors in Security History did not occur upon product reinstall.  Only, these Error Reporting Events.   Do they just keep populating daily....or, will they subside as product settles in.   No need then to do another soft reinstall.  Icon is green and no entry under Errors.

Do they just keep populating daily......?

Chat told me the Error Reporting are attacks performed on the computer while using the Internet and are Blocked by Norton....and that is a direct Quote

Hi bjm_,

Yes, it is perfectly normal to see such reports on a fairly regular basis; it can be once or twice a week; there is no set schedule. This is the case with my NIS 2010 and with other people's NIS ;-) I have had my NIS 2010 since end of September (I think), and I still see such reports, and this has never worried me; it is a perfectly normal occurrence which can be regarded as a feedback for Symantec in order to improve the product's bowels ;-D Remember that as long as NIS 2010 is running smoothly and reports that it is secure/has a green tick, it is fine :-)
