I have been reading threads regarding making changes in Program Control in Norton's Smart Firewall crashing Symantec Framework. As well as Lenevo computers with a certain quick boot I believe, I don't have a Lenevo computer so I wouldn't know I have just read about it, I'm wondering how many Window 7 computers are having this problem, I would stay out of program control, usually Norton will make any changes needed to make sure your programs work o.k, P.S I'm sure P.C checkup is safe if it's from Norton however I'm not sure what to tell you about it. .............Best, Gorpy1
When symantec framework crashes just log off and log on into your account. After that it seems to be working fine.
Well I can try that, However when Symnatec Framework crashes NIS 2012 will not even load, which may make it hard to log into your account, Do you mean re-boot because that will usually get Norton to load and fixed, Do you have an XP sp3 O.S ?Thanks....Best..............Gorpy1
My norton crashes when I try to open Program Control. It takes a while and then crashes. Didn't have this problem before the weekend.
Any fix available?

Yes, I believe so. Just stay out of Program Control for a while, The guy went to a doctor and said my arm hurts when I go like this, so the doctor told him Don't go like this, I'm sure it'll show up in Community watch or error ques, and Norton will correct the problem when they can If you have XP a reboot will usually correct the problem for now...........Best, Gorpy1

lol? thats not a fix. I need to edit a program that is being blocked by NIS. And I need it now. Can't wait for it a week or something till they release a fix.
That's like telling someone who just bought a car they cant ride it on the highways.
Have you tried talking to Symantec about this immediate problem Best.......Gorpy1
The issue is solved, probably due to an update that has been released for this.

Glad to hear it.........Best, Gorpy1
Got a "sick" e-mail update supposedly from THIS Thread that's not even from this thread, Now when I click the view button the post will not show up now, Thank God. I just ran a full System Scan too with NIS 2012 right before receiving it. I also posted this in the Forums Posts......Anyone else? Thanks.......Best....Gorpy1 P.S It was from someone called kyolive
And today the issue returned. wtf?
Fix this Symantec, seriously!
has your issue been fixed?
nope.
Happened to me today after a boot, I wonder if there's a way to not have to reboot to fix this issue, the bottom icons don't make it up to the interface, I guess you just let Microsoft send the error report and reboot and be done with it, Oh Well!Best.....Gorpy1
Symantec Framework has crashed twice in the last 3 days. I don't even know what the error code is anymore! The bottom icons (this time the words made it ) but not the icons. Twice since the Firefox update. I don't have Firefox. I ran a full sysyem scan it removed tracking cookies, I cleared my IE8 browser (I have XP SP3) and It Symantec crashes, Then it won't load untill I reboot, Why so delicate these days...........Gorpy1
The only thing I can say is that it could be an issue with the updated firefox/chrome version. The problem with mozilla and google trying to see who can get to version 100 the fastest they themselves could be creating problems that we are only now seeing. Instead of raising and nuturing a version, they rush new features and code in and out the door before some have even finishing learning how the previous version works. That sadly isn't Symantec/Norton fault (see I can be fair). Google and Mozilla need to slow down and take time on each version, there is nothing wrong with .1, .112, .250 after the version number.
I am using Norton Internet Security 2012 and I solved an issue where NIS crashed with this error message after trying to configure Program Control in Smart firewall.
I started to get this error message for the last few weeks after I needed to manually change firewall rule for a certain program. After searching for days on the forums (here and on all forums that I could find) I decided to take a "drastic" measure.
I choose to Reset the firewall (Settings -> Network -> Smart Firewall -> Advanced settings -> Configure. Then click on Firewall Reset -> Reset. Then click OK, OK).
After this when I open Program Control -> Configure, there is no more "Symantec Framework Crashes Error" and I can add, change, remove program rules without an issue.
I hope that this helps.
Nis 2012 19.7.1.5 not loading properly (icons do not show up only words) then crashing with Microsoft wanting to report it. A reboot seems to fix it................Why ..........Gorpy1
I've got this problem too. thanks for the instructions Andromeda555.
Norton: get this fixed. Since Andromeda's fix works, I can only imagine that you're either not handling large numbers of entries well, or not handling a large number of collisions well. I reinstalled to fix this once previously, and it's happening again now. Really annoying, and doesn't speak well for your developers.
