Hi Mehul,

Sorry for the trouble. Is it happening everytime you click on the Traffic Rules Tab or after performing actions on the tab? Also please provide us the OS details, a screenshot would be appreciated.

Symantec Service Framework.jpgYes it happens everytime. OS is Windows 7 SP1 64-bit 8GB RAM i7 Processor. And N360 closes after the error and I have to restart to get it back.

Hi MehulBhai,

Thanks for giving us a bit more information on this issue. I've sent you a Private Message (yellow envelope in the upper right-hand corner of the forums) requesting additional information. If you're able to send that to us, it would be a big help.

Unfortunately, when I try to get this error to occur, I'm not seeing it. Traffic rules seems to work just fine for me. Can you run through the specific steps you take to get this problem to appear? I want to be sure we're doing it right to get the error to show. Thanks again.

Same issue and more:

at restart the pc don't load windows so I had to reset during the starting of Windows 7 so and now I have a problem with the start of windows and the error 8504, 104 with Norton furthermore with google chrome the norton plug-in doesn't work and cause the crash of browser.

Why have you released an update that doesn't work?

NORTON 360 V6 is worst than a virus!!!!!!!!

Hi MehulBhai

The only time  I had trouble with Symantec Framework was in a testing environment.

How did you install/upgrade to V6? Did you uninstall a previous version/product or do an in place upgrade? Sometimes just upgrading can leave behind something that can cause issues.

I'm sorry but this doesn't work: unistall norton 360 and reinstall it doesn't work the issue isn't related to upgrade on previous versons but IT'S A CRITICAL BUG OF NORTON 360 v6 RELATING THE SYMANTEC FRAMEWORK: THE FIREWALL DOESN'T WORK!!!!

Last time I installed N360 after uninstalling everything Norton, and the problem is solved. But now today the problem has occured again.

I just renewed my subscription on March 8 and installed 360 v6.  I added my Program Rules manually, which is annoying enough when you consider I was installing a new Norton atop an older version.  It seems it could at least ask if those rules should remain.  But two weeks later, when I tried to add new Program Rules, the framework crashed.  The virus protection seemed to be working, but the firewall wasn't blocking the programs until I rebooted.  A search of the Internet brought up a thread under NIS that started in November, and though the thread is up to 13 pages, the problem is still not solved.  After I posted on that board on the March 23, a Live Update came through, so I am now working with 6.1.2.10.  It still crashes.

First, it crashed after I'd selected the .exe but before I was able to choose a rule from the drop-down box.  I tried again after a Live Update and reboot, and it crashed.  When I looked at it again to see if it had removed or changed other entries, it had added the program from the previous crash.  I tried selecting a rule from the drop-down box there, but it crashed.  I tried reinstalling, and it just crashes, no matter what.  My productivity has tanked in the last few days because I now have to work around my virus protection, and it's been over a month since this issue was brought up specifically for 360 - and, of course, over four months since it was brought up first, for NIS.  Despite being on my fourth or fifth renewal with Norton, I'm ready to start checking out other options - but, of course, it will be a couple of months before I see that $130 again, according to Symantec's return policy page.

Hi IpWallaby

I wonder why you needed to add program rules manually? Do you have special rules you use? Norton will automatically create rules for known programs.

The only time I had Framework errors was working with beta software. Restoring the hard drive to pre beta state corrected that.

When you reinstalled, how did you do it?

One suggested way is to use the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

Back up any Identity Safe data.

Download and run the NRNR tool here www.norton.com/nrnr

Run LiveUpdate as often as necessary to get the message that there are no more updates available, rebooting as necessary.

Import your Identity Safe Data.

As I mentioned, you would not have to manually add rules for most programs.

Let us know if this helps.

Why should it matter why I use a feature that is built into the software?  The bottom line is that it is a feature that, when used, causes the software to crash.

I ran the reinstall by downloading and running the software again.  I'm not going to use the removal tool because at least I have some program rules set up, and they seem to work as long as I don't try to change them.

I did not want to seem like I was prying. It does not matter why you use a feature. It is just that many people coming here for help do not have as much knowledge as others, and may not know that the program control will automatically set program rules.

As for a fix for your problem, I see you have already posted in the NIS board where Tim Lopez has noted in this post that the engineers are working on this, and as of March 22 there is no definite time for the fix.

I wanted to post over here because at the time, I didn't realize that was the NIS board.  I had searched the problem on Google, and that came up.  I wanted to make sure the engineers knew that it is 360 also because the one 360 post I saw was short, though still unresolved.

I apologize if it seems I was snapping at you.  I am both a graphic artist and programmer, so I have no less than six programs open at any given time and any number of web sites, and I am busy as many hours of the day as I'm awake.  I depend on the firewall working the way I've set it up, and every time I have to stop a process or reboot completely, I get more frustrated.

No problem. I can understand how frustrating it can be when something does not work the way it is supposed to.

Small comfort, but at least these forums let Symantec know when there is still a problem with their product.

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are working to get a solution as soon as possible for this specfic problem.

Thanks,

HarryP

The problem is already known about 4 months but there is still no solution. I call it not so soon as possible.
