I was rummaging through the task schedules of Windows 7 x64 Home Premium and noticed two separate entries.
Under Norton Internet Security, there are Norton Error Analyzer and Norton Error Processor. Both use the current NIS 2012 engine. Upgrade was on top of NIS 2011 using trialware and without using Norton Removal Tool.
Under Symantec, there are Norton Error Analyzer and Norton Error Processor. Both use NIS 2011's last engine 18.6.0.29.
Should an error occur, will the two engines conflict?
If the latter entries are meaningless, can a user remove or at the least disable them?

I think you can delete/disable them. Also, the entries should be gone if you did the complete uninstallation of Norton Internet Security 2011 and use the Norton Removal Tool (clean uninstall/install).

You can just delete the old entry. It points to non-existing folder anyway, and deleting it will not cause any issues at all. It won't hurt anything to just leave them both, either.
