"Symantec Shared Component has stopped working" error on Vista Home Basic

Hello everyone,

I am hoping someone can shed some light on this issue as I could not locate a similar problem on the net or in this help forum. If there is another thread for this error, it would be greatly appreciated if you could redirect me. Here is my problem:

When playing my favourite online game (Acclaim's Bots) and also just sporadically, an error from my Norton Internet Security 2009 will pop up that says: "Symantec Shared Component has stopped working" - Check for solutions online. When I click "check for solutions online", it tells me that there is no update or solution found.

Other than this warning/error, I have not noticed any other issues with my laptop. Everything else including my Norton updates and scans are working fine (performance speed does not seem affected either) however I do notice that occasionally my pc will boot me out of online games when this error appears. I am thinking that this is most likely because the games I play are full screen and when the error pops up, the game closes and redirects me back to my desktop.

About the time I started getting this error, Norton did detect the Brisv.A virus, but following the online directions, I successfully removed the virus using the online removal tool from Norton. All scans have come up 100% clean ever since. I have made sure that all updates have been done from Microsoft, however the error continues to pop up.

If anyone could shed some light on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
