Hi rmkugach
What is the version number of the Norton product, you can find this by clicking the Norton icon, click support, hover over, about, on the window that opens, the second line down is the version number.

Welcome,
First, have you rebooted since making all of the changes?
Have you opened NAV and clicked on 'support' then 'get support' to see if the program can repair itself?
Are both your operating system and NAVup to date? All updates downloaded and installed?
Keep us posted

If you are using the Symantec enterprise product, rather than the Norton consumer product, you should post here:

Dick,
Thanks for your response.
Yes to all your questions. The Symantec product that I have installed on my computer is called Symantec Endpoint Protection. I can't find a version number or more defined description of the software. I am able to download updates, but my status screen still shows "Firewall is malfunctioning."
Any other suggestions?

rmkugach, please see Send of Jive's post above where he refers you to the Symantec Enterprise forums, where you can find help.
For windows 8.1 you need Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.RU4 (12.1.4013.4013) Released October 28.

For best results you may want to make sure you already have these updates:

I was playing around with a domain computer with a NetBIOS problem and stumbled across a fix for this problem.
Open your Network and Sharing Center, click on your connection, then click Properties.
In the connection Properties box, click Install, then Service, and then select the EndPoint Firewall service.
Restart the computer and it should be fine.
