For about 1 to 1.5 hours at a time, the Mac gets very hot and the fan is at full speed. Activity Monitor shows SymDaemon using over 200% of the CPU (impossible, yes, but I think it really does say that). I've attached the Sample text file from the process. Eventually the scan ends and SymDaemon drops to a reasonable level of CPU usage, but this should not be happening at all.

Any ideas about a solution? I've read many discussions of this kind of problem on this forum and other places around the web, and have seen it going back for many years. The solutions seem to fall into three types:
- This is a known issue for this version of the software, and Symantec is working on it.
- Try killing the process and hope the problem doesn't recur soon.
- Get rid of the software.
Any other suggestions? Is this a know issue, and if so is it being addressed?
Thanks!
