I just bought int sec 08 online and when installing it gets to the part where it installs symantec software and a pop up appears.

it says "Files needed". and it wants me to browse my computer for symimv.sys

no clue what to do. skipping it doesn't work. i can't get a hold of norton's technical support because i just don't have time to wait 40 minutes to talk to a representative. Dell support does not want to help me either. Does anyone know what is wrong?

$59 bucks and then they want to charge 10 more just to get help...

atleast i’m not the only one. looks like i just put 60 bucks down the drain.

I running vista with sp1 what are you using?  Ive tried setting up a new user account, that didnt work. Ive downloaded and run Symregfix.exe, it said no invalid registry keys found in registry,so that didnt help. From looking around this site it appears NIS2008 has serveral problems. Surley somebody out there can tell us what this file is and why its not on the install disc. My install stops as it is downloading the network drivers and I get the window Files needed.         SymIMV.sys on Symantec Network Security Intermediate Filter Driver is needed.

vista also.i have norton internet security on my desktop which is vista and it seems to work fine. i just emailed norton and got my refund. today i chatted with another norton analyst. the first lost connection and never called me or emailed me even though they have my info. the second said he is going to transfer me to a case manager and i got disconnected. it seems like they don’t want to help. norton is crap. now i’m using avg. it is much better.

I'm not sure whether this is a general installation problem or just a problem with your installation files.

I recommend downloading another copy from Norton Internet Security Product Update and use the key that you should already have to install from that version.

I have the same problem. My NIS20008 is from netzero and thier support techs cant figiure out what the problem is even after 2 weeks of emails and phone support. I have tried all of thier suggestions and nothing has worked. H ope somone can solve this problem.
