I, along with several other users of Norton Security for the Mac who frequent this forum, have had a problem for over a year where symquald maxes out the cpu on the Mac. (See original thread at this link.) This has happened with 7.6, 7.7 and now happens with 7.8, which just installed on my Mac today. Is anyone else seeing their cpu max out due to symquald activity on their Macs after the 7.8 upgrade?
It would be great if Symantec actually fixed the problem. :(
Instead, I've been successfully using a workaround suggested by Jerb to rename the symquald file so that Norton can't run it. Per 'jerb', the location of symquald is:
<your boot drive>/Application Support/Symantec/Silo/NFM/Symqual/Symquald
When I rename that file as SymqaldX, the CPU usage returns to normal.
