I have been fighting BSODs for a month now which show Symsnap as the cause of my system crashes. I am pretty sure that SYMSNAP is a Norton Ghost service. This started after years of no problems with Norton Ghost 14 so I guessed that it was a recent configuration change in my computer that is causing the problem with Norton Ghost. My observations indicate that the BSODs showed up after a recent update of another program and sure enough un-installing that program seemed to clear up the problem; however, the other program is critical to me as is Norton Ghost. It appears that the system crashes occur at or very near the end of the turn-on/restart process when just about every thing has loaded (Desktop is viewed and the system tray is starting to fill up or filled up with all those start up processes). However, the BSODs can occur many minutes after the system has reached steady state during a turn-on/restart, it is just that I rarely observe this scenario. Normally the BSODs occur about once every 5 turn on cycles but I've observed that with one of my network drives turned on (they are normally turned off), the probability of the BSOD increases to almost 100% during turn-on. Again the BSODs showing Norton Ghost Version 14's SYNSNAP as the cause and lists the same starting address each time (whatever that is) in the BSOD screen. Ususally the reboot results in normal operation unless, as above, my network drive is turned on. Thus my guess is that there is a driver conflict between Norton Ghost and the other program. I've seen such terms as volume mounting, VSS and other terms beyond my comprehension in my investigations of this problem. My uneducated guess is that Norton Ghost is executing some VSS service (??) during start up, along comes this other program attempting to load or do something and 20% of the time --> BSOD showing Norton Ghost as the cause. Any ideas on why SYMSNAP is causing BSODs or how I can resolve the problem? I do have Norton Ghost 15 but the license states one machine and with Norton Ghost 14 still on my primary system (Vista 32-bit) , I don't think I want to upgrade to 15 until I revert to a Windows 7 64-bit OS based primary computer. I haven't had any problems with Norton Ghost Version 15, the same 'other program' and Windows 7 on my new notebook, but then again I don't use it anywhere as much as my primary desktop machine.
