SymUIAgent.App taking 60% of my CPU cycles

HI

I can't see what it is doing as Norton does not seem to be actively doing anything but SymUIAgent.App is taking 60% of the processor cycles on my Intel MacBookPro?

This happens quite often - any suggestions as to where to look for the cause?

Thanks

Hello Simon,

Sorry to hear about the problem. First, please launch Activity Monitor (in Applications -> Utilities). Then, in the upper-right hand corner of the Activity Monitor window, please change the popup menu to "All processes". Find the SymUIAgent.app application in the list (you can filter the list by typing SymUIAgent into the search field).

Once you find UIAgent in the list, first make sure that the process ID is not changing. That means UIAgent is crashing and is being re-launched automatically. If the UIAgent keeps going up (and up), then UIAgent is crashing--which would explain the CPU usage.

If SymUIAgent is not crashing, double click on it in Activity Monitor. Then click the Sample button at the bottom of the window that will appear. Copy & paste this text into the forums here. This will tell us where SymUIAgent is spending all of its time.

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback.

I forced quit the application yesterday to cut the fan noise.

Next time I spot it acting up I will do as you say and let you know.

Thanks
