System Builder version of NIE 2011

My daughter recently purchased a copy of NIE 2011 from Amazon marketplace in the UK. When the software arrived she remarked on how small the box was compared to a shop bought copy. When she opened it and removed the disc she realised why.

The disc had a label that clearly stated it should only be supplied with a new PC ........... which is not how/why she bought it.

She has contacted the 'shop' & they have told her it is perfectly legal & that Symantec sell them the discs & are quite happy that they sell them on.

Surely this cannot be the case?

Tim,

Yes I can.

The product is Norton Internet Security (NIS, not NIE, sorry!) 2011 - 1 user/1 year subscription. The cost was approx. £30.

The disc came in a box slightly larger than the disc with Symantec terms & conditions paperwork stuck to the back. The label on the box front notes it as being the System Builder version.

Hello rottcodd26,

Is there an email address on the disk to contact in regards to any violations? If so, you might want to email that account and ask them as they would be able to specify if this is a legitimate way to acquire this product.

Here's a scan of the disc. No email address of any kind.

Is it a genuine product?

Regards

Steve

It always helps to attach the scan!

Hi Steve,

System Builder is provided with the purchase of hardware, or else with the purchase of a new PC in which that hardware is included. It includes 365 days(1 Year) of initial subscription. So, even if the Norton product can be genuine, it is not advised to use when you get it from an unauthorized partner. Read the following articles to know more about the System Builder editions and it's partners:

http://www.symantec.com/partners/licensing/system-builder.jsp

http://www.symantec.com/about/profile/antipiracy/faq.jsp

Also, you are not entitled to get any refund from Symantec in case you are not satisfied with the Norton product(System Builder Edition). So, better return it to Amazon market place and try to get a copy from any of the authorized partners.

rottcodd,

That £30 strikes me as expensive for a 1PC limited (not licit?) version since Amazon are offering the 3PC version for £43 and you can probably get a £20 upgrade rebate  on that -- worth checking.
