System Information Fails On Drive Tab but only on the boot drive

I have a HP Pavilion 2x3GHz running XPPro SP2. I do not use it on the net.

I use Norton Utilities 2002 to monitor performance and the Drive tab in System Information has a problem.

Unless I right click on another drive to bring it up, it starts, naturally enough, in C, the boot drive.

Then, after some hesitation, it presents me with a NU Sys Info notification saying

"Norton Utilities System Information has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

For more information about this error, click here."

Inside it says - AppName: si32.exe   AppVer: 15.3.0.36    ModName: ntdll.dll   ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180   Offset: 00012ffc

There is an appcompat text file to go with it.

Nothing else, so far, is not working but my lightning-quick HP starts up really slowly.

I have recently stopped some services from starting automatically, and also slimmed down the startup group.

Also, the C drive is about 85% used, or about 64 of 74GB. The swapfile is about 512MB and I have 1GB of RAM.

If you have any suggestions as to what might cause this I would be very grateful for your input.

Hi Yogesh.

I checked the compatability settings and it's not

running in compatability mode.

I've got a Dr Watson log for this error.

This is the basic information only. I have the rest but there's a lot of it.

I much appreciate your having a look at this.

Cheers.

ps Is there something unusual about this site's interface? It seems slow on my pc {which isn't the one with the problem!}

Here's an interesting thing!

I transferred 40GB of mp3 files from C to J (the removable 465GB drive)

and, lo and behold, the problem has moved to the J drive.

This suggests to me that this is a specific file or files which is/are

messing up si32.

Actually, 40GB was MOSTLY mp3's with an iTunes folder and the ODBC

stuff and ripping logs, so I'm hoping there is a known issue that I can ID

the offensive item(s) and remove it.

I hope someone's interested in this cos I am!

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance with this.
