My NIS09 is ver 16.5.0.135. For some time System Tray Icon takes what seems like forever to appear..other Tray Icons appear instantly on StartUp. NIS09 is always dead last. Not sure if only since last build update. Think is was slow in previous build. Never thought about it until I read posts about 360 and slow Tray Icon.
Just wanted to post my experience and see if anyone has same symptom. Very slow appearance of NIS09 Tray Icon on StartUp. I have "Early Load" On and "Caching" Off.
How long is the list on start up? Start>Run>type msconfig click ok ....look under startup TAB,If you are unfamiliar with doing this just look don't touch! A lot of programs start unnessarily on start up,It does require a bit of research and what you feel comfortable in doing to your pc.Another place to check where NIS appears is For XP in the event viewer>Applications.I have read that NIS does load before any other product so don't worry about not being protected, sorry I can not remember the post.
What is your OS? What is your computer's configuration? Do you often clean up and optimize your PC's disk? How many programs are running on Windows startup?
Vejdin Thanks for your interest. Vista 32 bit. I run Glary Utilities and CCleaner. I have disabled almost all programs at StartUp via Windows Defender Software Explorer. I have also set Superfetch to manual as well as other services I do not use. Any connection with Superfetch? I found System was more responsive without Superfetch. HDD was spinning it's brains out trying to load and reload what it things I may need.

Never used these programs but apparently you take care of your PC's performance and health.
How much time it takes for NIS to load? Does your PC meet the minimum system requirements for Windows Vista?
The suggestion made by mo is important too. If you are familiar with msconfig, you can uncheck unneeded programs from running at Windows startup - that's important for your system to load faster.
This is not new with 2009. I have seen the behavior over the years on an irregular basis. I think the icon appears when NIS completes its initial pass. This could make sense if the programmers would not want users trying to get into NIS while it is still doing its initilization and first scanning.
You will also notice that anything you try to launch before the icon appears either will not appear at all until after the icon shows up; or it will load verrrrrry slowly.
BTW, I have also seen similar behavior with McAfee a lot time ago. I don't know about other products, though.
