Since I don't prefer automatic updates, I've relied on the systray icon's notifications that my definitions are out of date as a reminder to run Live Update. But since upgrading to NIS 2012 I don't seem to be getting those notifications anymore, and I haven't found any setting in the console to affect that function. Are these notifications still available, and if so how do I enable them?

Norton should be alerting you if your virus definitions are seriously out of date, although I am not sure exactly how much out of date you need to be before a notification is triggered. Of course, alerts only tell you when your protection is already compromised, so your method of updating is not really ideal. Full virus signature updates are released 1 - 3 times per day, so if you are not checking for updates periodically during the day, you are missing definitions for the most current malware. Instead of waiting to be alerted, why not simply run LiveUpdate once or twice a day to make sure you are up to date?
