Jody and Katie,

 

I have changed her account from administrator to limited user. I will wait and see if she still manages to bypass the Minder. 

 

She says that she needs chat and facebook to communicate on homework and get links to songs. It is impossible for us to prove or disprove unless we are standing right there all the time. So I wonder if you have a plan to let parents have the capability to monitor chat content for example.

On the last email I aasked about monitoring chat content...I was referring to online chat like gmail chat, not IM.

OnlineFamily.Norton supports following Instant Messengers to monitor Instant Messaging activity for your child:

 

• Yahoo Messenger

• MSN Messenger

• Windows Live Messenger

• AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) - (Note: AIM 7.0 is currently not supported.)

• Google Talk

 

OnlineFamily.Norton currently does not support Web browser based clients of Instant Messengers listed above. It's on our enhancement list to support them.

Well, I changed her account to limited user and she still manages to bypass. I will email you for a remote session when I get a chance with you with the bypass on.

There are two admin accounts on the PC with NSM installed.  The administrator account doesn't have a password setup, so the kid is able to log onto the PC with the administrator account and bypass the program.

I was just wondering if this problem has been resolved or if there is something that I can do to fix it.  I have watched my children and when the notice comes up they just simply close it and Norton will continue to let them go to the site of there choosing without blocking it.  I did not download this program so that they could just simply bypass it.  I have scanned the rest of the posts buy I have not seen a solution.  Please help.

Your problem might be due to the settings for your child, rather than a tamper problem.  Can you check each child's settings to find out if they're set to "warn" vs. "block" for web filtering?

 

The way you do this is by logging into Online Family & going to the Settings entry in the top navigation area.  Next, select "Web"

Next, in the web settings, note which setting your child has.  Is he set to "give a warning" or "block the site?"  In order to block sites and not allow kids to access those sites, this must be set to "block."  If your child is not set to block, please change this and click "update settings" at the bottom.

 

Does this solve your problem?

"Norton Safety Minder on MainOfficeComputer used by Isaac has been disabled. As you know, Norton Safety Minder is required on every computer monitored by OnlineFamily.Norton."
I get this constantly. When will this be resolved?
My son does not have my password.

Thanks Katie. This last time it happened I did not get any notification.  I don't usually have to restart the PC, I just go into Norton Safety Minder and turn it back on of my son.  I will check the browser/add ons tolls and definitely check my version of NSM.

I have also been experiencing the issue with the saftey minder being turned off when I did not do so.  My son specifically says he did nto do it either.  I just want know if anyone found out this is a glitch in the system and if there has been a fix for it.
