Hello I just wanted to give you guys a chance to redeem yourselves before I post my complaint on ripoffreport.com. On 1/28/11 I installed a new hard drive on my computer. Since I had recently bought Norton Antivirus 2011 for up to 3 computers I figured it would be okay to reinstall the same product key that I just used last month before I reformatted my hard drive. Now 1 version got installed on my mothers computer, and the second one on my own laptop. So I was hopping that I could reinstall the same copy. However when I tried I got a pop up stating that the product key was not valid.
So I figure that a phone call to tech support will solve my problem. Wrong…
My call got answered by a representative in India. When I explain the situation to him he says that the only way to handle this is by remotely accessing my computer. Hesitantly I agreed but decided that since I had just reformatted my hd there was nothing to hide. So I let him in. He does a scan that comes up with a tracking cookie and a trojan virus. All the while the guy is trying to scare me telling me this and that. I tried to explain the tracking cookie was just something companies put on your computer to track your clicking habits but he insisted it was a virus. Now mind you I had just wiped my computer clean and there were still plenty of tasks for me to do, But Norton had found that there were 10 issues with my Comp.. Not a problem, I just had to configure my backup and restore, transaction security, PC Tune up, etc… This guy was trying to get me so scared that I would pay him to handle problems that I figured Norton was supposed to handle. (BTW I removed them with free virus removal tools).
went into my msconfig under the services tab and for some reason my windows update had stopped working. So the guy was telling me that my computer was ruined and that it didn’t matter how many hard drives I put on my computer it wouldn’t fix the problem. And that I either had to buy a new computer for $600 or pay him to clean it up for me. I could either do the one time fix for $160. Or pay for 3 years of monitoring yada yada. I told him that I couldn’t afford that to please get out of my computer I would try something else.
Now I am a pretty laid back guy and ussually don’t fuss about much, but this guy really ticked me off. He told me the reason my product key wasn’t working is because my computer is damaged and that I couldn’t download the virus software because I have viruses.
I can supply my product key in a private message
I feel that I am entitled to reinstall the version that I just bought for my computer last month, and should have 1 remaining copy to use on another computer.
